The Sheriff of Clinton County is David Favro. Sheriff Favro is ultimately responsible for the administration of the Clinton County Jail. According to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department’s website, the Corrections division of the Sheriff’s office is the largest component consisting of 89 correction officers including a Jail Warden, three Lieutenants, nine Sergeants and seventy six correction officers. The facility capacity is 300 inmates. In 2007 the jails average daily inmate population was 218. As many as 103 inmates per day were boarded in from other governments, generating over four and one half million dollars to offset the county expense since July 2006. There are a wide range of inmates incarcerated in the Clinton County Jail ranging from charges of traffic violation to murder.

The county is named in honor of George Clinton, the first Governor of New York. It lies to the south of the border with the Canadian province of Quebec.
